Compatible Plugin Not Found when trying to play an AVI.

Postby dstark125 » Mon May 20, 2013 4:13 pm

I have a couple ~800MB .avi files on my main desktop which is running Tonido 24/7.

When trying to play these files from another PC I get an error message saying "Compatible Plugin Not Found."

I saw that the question has been briefly asked in this post viewtopic.php?f=32&t=6661&p=29881&hilit=compatible+plugin+not+found#p29881 but that was in 2008 and honestly not very in depth.

The serving desktop is running Windows 8 pro, and I have tried to access it from multiple other Windows 8 machines with Internet Explorer AND Chrome, none has worked.

This video DOES play on Android and IOS devices though. I find it funny that it can play on that but not on a Windows based system.

Any thoughts?

Playing AVI on windows via web browser is a hit or miss. Playing it on iOS or Android is using transcoding so that is why it works as is.

For video playback, we suggest you install VLC on the system you are trying to play the file (and make sure to install all the browser plugins) and then retry the playback.
