Guest can't use "open with" function to stream video

Postby jancsicso » Sun Jan 04, 2015 4:01 pm

Hello

I'm wondering why there are these restrictions for guests.

The admin account can stream any size of video with "open with" function, but guests can't. I'm using Mxplayer, like all my guest to watch movies on android, since the built in player doesn't support AC3 audio for example, and sometimes it crashes.

There is any setting to let guests use "open with" function for large files?

There is no settings for large files. All you need to do is click on the "3 dots" icon as shown in the screenshot and play with.

Yeah. But you can't do that with large files...

Hi,

Download the video first and then play it. That's the way open with is working

That's not streaming like that. With admin account I can stream, and I dont have to wait...

Streaming will only done when you do "play".
For "Play with..." or "open With", the whole file must be given to a different app (they dont take URL in general). If a the file is small, then the app auto downloads and gives the file to the external app (that you choose). if the file is larger, it will ask you to download explicitly and then use the "play with" on the downloaded file.

Actually that's not true. I can use any external player (like the most popular MXPlayer) to stream anything with admin account.

I don't think so. I've made two records from the behaviour. Look at the one with the admin account. Don't tell me that it downloaded the whole file before start. It took just 3 sec to download a file with a size over 1 GB?

With admin account:

With guest account:

Also notice, that the internal player can't handle the file...

Thanks for the video . Clearly what I said was incorrect (it applied to iOS). Looks like it is difference in behavior between admin vs guest . That should not be the case. We will look into it and fix it in an update to the app.

No problem. I'm happy that I could explain somehow what's my point.

Thanks for looking after this!
