Upload Speed Issue For TonidoPlug

Postby neato » Sun Jul 17, 2011 9:39 pm

I know this topic has been raised before but I can't seem to find a solution to this problem. My upload speed is fixed at 50kps outside my home network. I know that the remote upload speed allowed by my ISP is at least 150kps based off torrent seeding and those internet speed test sites. Inside the network it is fine at over 1Mbps

I notice no difference in upload speed when changing the "Network Speed" setting. When sharing via WebShare, changing the upload size limit does not affect the upload speed. I know of no other way to address this issue. Can anyone provide a next step on how to fix this? Is this a router issue perhaps?

Are you connecting via Tonido relay or port forwarding?

To get to full theoretical speed, please port forward. When using relay it is going via our servers and you may or may not get full speed depending upon a lot of factors.

I have sort-of successfully port forwarded the TonidoPlug (see the post http://www.tonido.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3206).

When testing the remote upload and download speeds on a folder shared using WebSharePro, both speeds hover around 50-75kbps. Hence, I don't think that port forwarding helped the situation, that it is probably not your relay servers that are the bottleneck.

Do you have any other ideas that I may be able to try regarding increasing the remote upload and download speeds? These speeds are low enough that streaming music gets a bit choppy sometimes, let alone making the sharing of large files very difficult.

Cheers,
Maat

In that case, that is your max upload speed.
What is your speed you get when you access your websharepro from a LAN system? What download speed do you get?

Hi Madhan,

I get ~1Mbps over a 50% wireless connection.

My modem claims an ISP upload speed limit of 512kbps, so I would expect to be able to get at least half that. However, I only see 1/10 of that. Also, when using a torrent app (not the tonido torrent app) I frequently seed at +200kbps so I don't think this is a modem/router issue.

If you get that speed downloading files via Lan from Tonido, then if you portforward you should get the MAX speed possible, limited only by your upload. If you are not getting that then there is something wrong with your ISP.
