Can't add/upgrade packages

Postby serpicolugnut » Fri Aug 28, 2009 11:59 pm

I'd like to add the LAMP stack on my Tondio plug. However, whenever I run apt-get install (pkg name), I get the following error:

Could not open lock file /var/cache/apt/archives/lock - open (2 No such file or directory)

I get this even when trying to do apt-get upgrade. Any idea on what I need to do to fix this?

Thanks!

PLEASE DONT USE INSTRUCTIONS FROM OTHER SITES, THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL WORK

Looking for a way to move the kernel and file system to the Hard drive I ran into the following:

http://computingplugs.com/index.php/Fixing_apt-get

While it may not be the real cause of your problem it could be related. Anyway, it is one more reason I want to stay away from the internal flash. If we have to add a hard drive why bet on the slow horse, let's make full use of that unit, with all the added advantages of having space to grow, swap space, and all other benefits that disks have over flash.

Of course, this is not for everyone. If you want to use the Plug as it was intended, it is fine. But for those that see big potential in plug computers it really has great possibilities.

Cheers,

Please run

Code: Select all

mkdir -p /var/cache/apt/archives/partial

Then try again.

By the way, I found that after having done it once, I had to do this a second time. Seems the subdirectories somehow got removed.

The debian package cache directory is on the ramdisk. So when you reboot the plug, all the changes to the ramdisk will be lost

Fixing the issue completely is easy.

SSH in and type "nano /etc/rc.local". Scroll down to line 16 (#mkdir -p /var/cache/apt/archives/partial) and remove the "#" in front of the line. CTRL+X to exit, Y to save.

Apt should now be working on reboot.
