Read only USB drive? Unhandled sense code

It looks like I can read from the drive, but can not create a file or directory. :( This is a 2TB external USB drive. I could have sworn it worked connected to the 'plug' before.

Accessing it from a windows machine, I get an I/O error...

Error 0x8007045D: The request could not be performed because of an i/o error.

The Tonido Log shows the following...

Apr 11 14:04:02 KNAS kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Unhandled sense code
Apr 11 14:04:02 KNAS kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08
Apr 11 14:04:02 KNAS kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Sense Key : 0x3 [current]
Apr 11 14:04:02 KNAS kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] ASC=0x11 ASCQ=0x0

What can I do to try and fix this?

Hello Paul,
You can try doing a file system check. In most of the cases it should fix the FS error.
If it didnt, there is a possibility that the HDD is going bad.

To check the file system (assuming its an ext3 FS), ssh into the plug and run these commands.

Code: Select all

 # umount /dev/sdb
# fsck.ext3 /dev/sdb

It is an NTFS system pulled right out of a computer with a dead boot drive. I will look at the fsck options to see if it will work for NTFS. (I will stay away from newfs... dark time in my carrier. :? )

I unmounted the USB drive and plugged it into a Windows 8 machine. I had to use the command line CHKDSK twice to resolve all issues. There were corrupt sectors and some files were lost, but now the drive mounts and is writable on the tonido plug.

Thank you for your wise council.
