Yes. I read somewhere that SATA disks can be attached or removed when the system is up. So you need to first remove the SATA disk and then boot the plug and login from internal flash or USB drive. Once you have booted confirm that you can login via SSH. Then while the plug is still on, attach the SATA disk. Wait for a few seconds and see whether it is auto mounted, else manually mount it using the Unix mount command. Once mounted you can take a backup of the SATA files and reformat and prepare the drive from scratch, or restore a backup image file you might already have.
