Installing on second ethernet port

Postby uspetrolon » Wed Sep 09, 2009 1:53 pm

I have a MacPro with 2 ethernet ports. I was wondering if it would be recommended or even possible to plug the TonidoPlug into the second ethernet port rather than a router? Just curious as it would make things quite simple, yet I don't know if this would allow me to access the plug remotely.

Thanks,

Rich

No, you cannot do that, at least not in a straight forward manner.

If you use a cross-over Ethernet cable, you can connect it directly to your second port but that would allow only the MacPro and the Tonido to communicate unless you also configured your MacPro for IP forwarding and Network Address Translation (NAT).
