External connextion problems

Postby jreacher » Thu Mar 03, 2011 12:22 pm

Got my Plug yesterday. I got in it and set it up. And I can accesss it IF I
go to www.tonidoplug.com/ip, and then click on my Plug.

But I can't access it using "username.tonidoid.com" ?? I do not understand this
because I tried the Tonido software on my computer before I bot the Plug and
could access just fine.

My question is this: When in the Plug, it says, "Access your Plug from anywhere using
this address: username.tonidoid.com, so does it work this easy OR do I HAVE to do
all that router ip porting static ip address stuff in order to get in?

Also, the tonido apps for Blackberry and iPad worked just fine when I was using the software on my PC, but neither will access my Plug?

Help!!

jr

When you type http://<yourusername>.tonidoID.com/ui/core/index.html what do you see in your browser?

From my computer, I get:

This webpage is not available
The webpage at http://username.tonidoid.com/ui/core/index.htm might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error.

From my iPad, I get:

"Failed to login to server!"
Server, Account, Password might
be incorrect.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Edit: I went back and checked all my settings, and I was wrong about the relay.
It was the "Enable Remote Web Access" that I had remembered was checked.
I have checked the box for Relay, and she purrs like a kitten now.

Thank-you very much for the help.

So, when we check the box for "Relay", does this mean we are going through Tonido servers, like the other Sheeva plug, and to avoid this, we would have to set up the static ip and all?

Thanks,

jr

You only have to do a port forward in your router for port 10001.
You can than access your Plug via http://<user>.tonidoid.com:10001
You don't have to setup a static ip or something else.
You can also forward the port 80 (of your router) to port 10001(of your plug).
Than you don't have to add the ":10001" to the address.
But if you're located in the USA you have to make sure your provider allows forwarding port 80 (maybe in other countries, too. in Germany there is no Problem with that.).
