power up boot vs reboot

Postby krispy » Thu Jan 13, 2011 1:23 am

I can successfully boot up to an external usb os install on my plug only from a power off/on boot. Any reboot afterwords causes it to boot from internal flash instead. Is there something I can do to 'lock out' the internal flash during reboots? (This same problem occurs whether I use my usb powered hd, powered hd or my usb flash drive installs.)

I've a similar Problem, but the other way round:
If i do a cold reboot (power off/Power on the Plug) it boots from the internal Memory.
If i than go to the Plugadmin page and do a warm reboot (klick on "reboot Plug") it boots from the USB-Drive.
The USB-Drive is connected all the Time (its plugged in, bevor power on).

I guess I need to reword this... Is there a system file I can edit so the plug NEVER boots internally, but from the usb drive any time?

I visited a friend of mine yesterday (greatings to desaad ;) ) and we build an external boot-device for his plug.
But instead of an USB-Stick we used an external 2.5" USB-HDD.
And it worked well.
The Plug is booting from the external drive every time.
Never the less if it's a cold or warm reset.

So maybe some USB-Sticks are to "slow" for booting directly on a cold restart :?:

So has anyone a working USB-Boot-Stick?
If yes, what brand/type is it?

@agrajag: Kindly read my original posts. I have many configs that do work, except when doing a reboot. I just want to shut off the internal flash.

Yes i know.
An i've a similar problem, that it won't boot from an external drive on a cold reboot.
only on a warm reboot it works.
So i want to to shut off the internal flash, too.
We've the same problem.
You on a warm reboot.
I on a cold reboot.
We're sitting in the same boat and nobody comes to help
