Sheeva Plugpower consumption

Postby generic_idea_machine » Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:45 pm

Has anyone performed any metrics in regards to:

How much power the Plug draws in if it's left online 24/7 - 365?

I'm not a big fan of leaving my machines running 24*7

okay just did some quick googling and

worst/best case (depends on how you look at it) is 7.0 W
http://www.cyrius.com/journal/debian/kirkwood/sheevaplug/power-consumption

As opposed to 60 - 250W a standard desktop P.C would use.

So even if it costs upwards of 250 $ to keep a computer up and running per year. The amount of money one would save on hydro, running the Tonido/Sheevaplug (@ 11.6% of usage). Keeping that into consideration the Tonido/Sheeva plug should pay for itself in < 6 months :ugeek:

With a Patriot Xporter Magnum 64GB USB Flash Drive (Model PEF64GMNUSB) plugged into it, my Tonido settled in at 4.7 watts (measured with a Watts Up? power meter).

Oh - a little update. It's now oscillating between 2.8 and 3.0 watts. I'm guessing it went into a lower power mode.

Last update, I swear!

And it settled down further to 2.4/2.5 watts. Nice. :D

I only measured the power being drawn by the whole device (Tonido plus USB flash drive). The "Watts Up!" power meter is in-line with the Tonido. The Tonido is plugged into the power meter and the power meter is plugged into the electrical outlet.
