Manipulating the apps

Postby tedstur » Thu Apr 15, 2010 7:54 am

I am curious to know if it's possible to extend the apps.

For example, let's say I wanted to write an app that polled an email account for data, found a marker for a "to-do" item, and then automagically appended the item to the to-do list in the Workspace app.

I did not see any references to the apps in the SDK.

Is this sort of thing discouraged or encouraged? Would it be better to just write a new app rather than try to work with the existing ones? I am just trying to get a feel for the programming philosophy here...

This is definitely encouraged. Instead of a plethora of apps, it is nicer to keep a small amount of apps with rich functionality and with addons that add to it.

In your particular case, you could make an HTTP call to talk to Workspace. We can even open up other ways if you are really interested in talking with Workspace.

Ok, that helps a lot.

The HTTP call sounds fine. I will be playing around with this and let you know if I have further questions.

I can hardly wait until my plug comes.
