Guys... gotta install on other Linux distros...

Postby mindbender9 » Tue Apr 14, 2009 12:15 am

I know I'm pointing out the obvious but if you're going to create a release for Linux, you have to at least provide a way for NON-UBUNTU users to install your application.

How about gzip'g up the source files so that everyone else not running Ubuntu can install this?

Guys... put out a tar.gz and/or an rpm. Thanks.

I agree with you. We chose to go with Ubuntu because by far it was the most popular distro. We are open to releasing it on other distros, provided we can identify which ones are the most important.
Can you point us to what is missing? OpenSUSE, Fedora ?

Tonido builds on top of many libraries, so building it from source would be too much work and since we haven't open sourced the apps yet, we can't release the source for the apps in tar.gz form.

OpenSUSE for me, but any RPM would be good for Fedora users also.

EDIT: Oops. I didn't notice that you mentioned that the source files weren't released. Sorry.

Btw, it's great that you replied so quickly. Thanks.

Fedora would be a great choice of distribution. It is among the top 5 distros, a robust and reliable system. Plus is backed by Red Hat.

Need, "yum install tonido" ---- NOW! :)
I hope to see it soon.

I'm also in need of a Yum installation for Fedora.

Just came across Tonido and would love to try it out. Add my vote for a Tonido Fedora rpm, preferably 64-bit.

Hi

Just installed it on a Mandriva 2009.1 with the deb file.
Install dpkg and midnight commander, then you can browse the .deb and copy the files.

Anyway a Mandriva RPM would be great, or a LSB RPM that would work in most of the RPM based distros...

hy it gives the following error when i try to install it in fedora11
[DarkM@oshan alien]$ rpm -ivf tonido-0.2.0.8156-2.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libcrypto.so.0.9.8 is needed by tonido-0.2.0.8156-2.i386
libcrypto.so.0.9.8(OPENSSL_0.9.8) is needed by tonido-0.2.0.8156-2.i386
libssl.so.0.9.8 is needed by tonido-0.2.0.8156-2.i386
libssl.so.0.9.8(OPENSSL_0.9.8) is needed by tonido-0.2.0.8156-2.i386
its because the destination in deb file isnt the same for redhat systems if you can just adjust it to /usr/lib/
it will work fine
or tell me where to edit it
please im so amazed by the software but no luck to use it :(
