How Workspace saved my Contacts Data during a HDD crash

Postby madhan » Mon Mar 23, 2009 10:40 am

Real story:

During development, I had Tonido installed on all my machines at home. My wife was using Tonido workspace and had imported all our contacts into it using the import feature. We normally use Palm Desktop to store contacts, but wanted to switch over to using Workspace instead. A couple of days later, her machine's HDD crashed. With the crash went about 8 months of changes to the Palm Desktop data (Due to a screwup, the oldest backup we had was 8 months old).

Luckily, it turned out that because she had imported the contacts into "Our Home" group workspace, therefore the contacts had been synchronized to my Tonido instance and other machines.

After rebuilding her machine and reinstalling Tonido, I invited that new Tonido instance to "Our Home" group and her contacts were restored back to her. Not bad.
