Upgrade permissions errors

We are doing an eval of FileCloud and have a linux VM. We were attempting to an upgrade to the latest version from the admin portal, and got what look like user permission errors. I.e. couldn't write to the files/directories needed. Would have thought that the user running the services would have correct permissions out of the box. Everything is default as far as I know at this point.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong or how I can fix?
