Freecom’s Press Release follows:

London, 27/09/11 | Freecom, a Mitsubishi Kagaku Media company, today launched the ‘SilverStore 2-Drive NAS’, a simple to use network storage center featuring two separate, removable hard drives encased in a sleek silver-colored enclosure. The multi-configuration dual-drive design reliably stores up to 6TB of data from an entire home network in one central location and features the latest Gigabit and USB 3.0 host interface standard. The NAS drive makes it easy for multiple users to download large files, store and access documents, and share everything from videos and music to photos and presentations.

Many people rely on hard drives to store all kinds of information, but if their drive crashes these important files can be lost forever. With the SilverStore 2-Drive NAS, users can protect their data from this danger by programming it so that one drive automatically makes an exact copy of the other, giving them peace of mind that comes from knowing everything is safely backed up.

The SilverStore 2-Drive NAS can also be configured so that the two drives can be used as one single volume to maximize the amount of storage space on the network. Alternatively, the drives can be used for separate purposes – for example, they could be assigned to different family members so that data is kept segregated, or they could simply be used to store different types of files. Users can also organize and control access to their data by assigning individual usernames and passwords to ensure that their individual content remains secure at all times.

Furthermore, a secure private home cloud option enables users to access information remotely through their smartphones or tablets, even while they are out of the house. This functionality without additional end-user fees (i.e. subscriptions) is enabled by the free embedded Tonido Software on the SilverStore 2-Drive NAS “The growing popularity of smartphones and tablets is changing the way we access data,” said Dennis Slagers, technical product manager HDD at Freecom. “For many people, who own mobile devices, it’s not enough to be able to access files from networked computers – they also want to share information with friends and family when they’re on the move. With the SilverStore 2-Drive NAS, we have made it as easy as possible for people to share files wherever they are by incorporating a private home cloud option into the functionality of the drive. Flexibility is a key driving factor behind the design of the drive. That’s why we’ve enabled users to set up a system that works best for them – whether it’s to safely backup important files or maximize the amount of storage capacity they have for photos, videos and music.”

The SilverStore 2-Drive NAS connects directly to a network router or switch, and simple installation software makes it easy for any user to set up in minutes. The product is DLNA-compliant to allow for seamless video and audio streaming to playback devices such as the Xbox 360, PS3 and networked media players. Apple computers are supported by “Transmission backup” and an included iTunes server. It also comes complete with a built-in FTP server and BitTorrent client so that users can download large multimedia files directly to the drives quickly and easily – even while their computer switched off.

While this NAS drive features USB 3.0 technology on the front, which is backwards-compatible with USB 2.0, there is a second USB 2.0 port conveniently positioned at the back for extra storage devices. The high-performance unit contains a 1 GHz Marvell 6283 processor that runs with low power consumption.

Additional features of the drive include:

· Latest Gigabit LAN, RAID and iSCSI technology

· One or two hard disk drives (HDD) in RAID0, RAID1, Single DISK, JBOD

· Windows File Sharing (CIFS/Samba), Linux File Sharing (NFS) and Apple File Sharing (AFP & Time Machine) compatible

Announcing TonidoPro and Tonido 2.32

A new Tonido release 2.32 is out with new functionality and several bug fixes. If you are using sync, upgrading is recommended.

Since our release in 2009, Tonido has gone from strength to strength and we thank all our customers and users for that. We have now over 200K users using our products and we have even more exciting announcements that expand Tonido service availability beyond our products.

In terms of software quality and effectiveness, we have kept at it, improving usability, functionality while still keeping it simple. We have released mobile apps for all major platforms, and even recently released Tonido Sync, the first personal cloud sync solution. A quick check of the number of releases since 2009 reveals 29 software upgrades! There are very few software products with such high level of upgrades and increased functionality over this period of time. During that time we have kept the service free even though it costs money to keep the service running and operational in 3 data centers around the world (US, EU and Japan). But a lot of our users have asked us whether the service and the base software will remain free, and the answer is a firm yes.

The base Tonido software and service will remain free for the foreseeable future, so all the features you are using today will continue to work without ANY changes.

However, we are introducing a new higher level service tier called TonidoPro.

TonidoPro takes Tonido to the next level… It is an overall upgrade to your Tonido service that introduces several additional features and functionality detailed below.

Tonido WebsharePro is an enhanced version of Tonido Webshare that adds additional guest uploading and complete folder downloading. Tonido WebsharePro also provides options for mounting Tonido remotely as a drive instead of the web browser. With TonidoPro availability, the app store will no longer carry WebsharePro as it is now bundled with this product. For existing users, WebsharePro will continue to work without any changes.

For TonidoPlug users, WebsharePro will continue to work irrespective of whether you upgrade to TonidoPro or not.

Up to 50 GB of Sync Storage

Free Sync allows only up to 250 MB of Personal Cloud Sync for Desktop Users and 2 GB of Sync for TonidoPlug users. Expand your options by now going up to 50 GB.

DLNA/UPnP MediaServer
Serve media files via UPnP/DLNA to compatible media players.

For TonidoPlug users, MediaServer  will continue to work irrespective of whether you upgrade to TonidoPro or not.

Pricing and Availibility

The TonidoPro service is a subscription based service with a yearly introductory fee of $29.99. It is available immediately from our Tonido Store. To use TonidoPro you would need the latest Tonido Release 2.32.

To activate your TonidoPro license.

Announcing Tonido Personal Cloud Sync

It has been about 2 years since the launch of Tonido and TonidoPlug and it has been a period of solid growth and progress in many fronts. One of the key things we have been doing is listening to your feedback and using that to drive our product development strategy.

CodeLathe as a company strongly believes in empowering customers as well in solutions where the user has ultimately the control on their data. Today, we are more than excited to announce one such feature as part of the already strong Tonido Platform. Tonido already offers smooth and simple remote access to your files and media, today we take it one step further allowing Tonido to be your sync solution that keeps your files completely private.

CodeLathe is happy to announce Tonido Sync, one of the first products of its kind, offering file synchronization without using the Public Cloud. Now sync is truly personal.

So exactly how does it work?

Step 1:

Install Tonido on your computer. Install the Sync Application by clicking on “Get More Apps” on the left hand side navigation. After install, activate the Sync app.

After activation, a new TonidoSync folder is created on your computer or TonidoPlug.

To see the location of your synced folder, open Tonido and in the left hand navigation, you should now see the “My Synced Files” show up.

Step 2:

Go to other computers that you want to synchronize and install the small TonidoSync Client app for your OS, available from the Downloads Page. (available for Windows, Linux or Mac).

After install, start the app and enter the Tonido server credentials, same as what you would do for mobile apps.

A new TonidoSync folder is created on your computer.

Step 3:

There is no step 3!

Sit back and Relax. All content in the TonidoSync folder is now synchronized among all your computers.  Just drag and drop your files to the synchronization folder and it is synchronized with all your computers.

You can check the synchronization activity using the TonidoSync Client app.

This is available in Tonido release 2.30 available today on all platforms Windows, Linux, Mac and TonidoPlug.

Current Limitations:

During the beta, there is a limit of 250 MB for sync that is allowed and the maximum file size you can synchronize will be limited to 20 MB. Also, since it is in Beta, we request that you keep backup copies of your data when using it.

As usual, please keep the support, feedback and comments coming.
