Installation

Tonido is available in the iPhone App Store. Search for Tonido from your iPhone App store. Click "Install" to download and install Tonido.

Login

With Tonido running on remote computer or TonidoPlug. Click the Tonido Icon from your iphone and enter your login credentials as below in the account screen.

 

 

1. Enter your Tonido Server Address. Typically, it is in the form of http://yourid.tonidoid.com or https://yourid.tonidoid.com

 

2. Enter your password that was setup in Tonido server when the account was created.

3. Touch the Done button to begin connecting to your Tonido server.

If you have setup "Remote Login Qn" and "Remote Login Ans" in your Tonido account, then you need to use click the Advanced button to enter that information as in screen below.

 

Enter the answer to the remote question challenge that you set up in the Tonido Server.

Toggle switch for "Offline Access Only" to "On" to access the downloaded content without connecting to the Tonido server (useful when network is not available etc)

The application will automatically select LAN network access if possible (say the Tonido server being accessed is in the same LAN as the iPhone/iPod/iPad) and will automatically switch using the WAN network. This allows efficient use of network bandwidth and optimal access speed.

 

Tonido Views

Upon successful login, the main view will be presented. There are five tabs available. They are listed below.

1. Explorer view (Default view displayed)

2. Favorites view

3. Music Player view

4. Downloads view

5. Settings view

Explorer View

The explorer view is the basic view for navigating your remote content. The data is retrieved on demand and presented.

Some of the controls are shown based on the location of the folder.

1. Refresh Button: This button will attempt to re-login to Tonido and refresh the page content. In the event of temporary communication failure, use this button to refresh the page's data.

2. Details Button: Certain view will display this button and when clicked will display Detail View that displays the details regarding the item selected and the various actions available for that item.

3. Select Row: Touching the Row will perform one of the two actions depending on the Row's item. In the case of Folders, the content of the Folders will be selected. In the case of the File, Depending on the type of file various actions will be performed. For example, touching a music file will start playing the file and touching a photo file will launch the Photo Viewer and so on.

4. Photos: Photos button will show only Photos in that folder in thumbnail view

5. Search: The search bar allows searching the current folder view.

Various Explorer Subviews

Depending on the file types, any of the following sub views will be presented.

Detail View

Clicking the Details Button in the Explorer or Favorites view will display this view. This view shows the various actions available for the item selected and the details regarding the item.

Share this folder. This option will create a publically accessible share of the selected file or folder. If the share is successfully then options to distribute the share link will be displayed. The options will be to email shared link, SMS shared link or copy the link to device's clipboard.

Upload Photo to this folder: This option is presented on folders only and will allow capturing a photo on camera enabled device and upload the image to folder. Also, a photo from the device's album can be selected to upload to the folder.

Create a new folder: This option will be presented on folders only and will allow the user to create new subfolder.

Download contents to Phone: This option will download the file or files in a folder to the device. NOTE: If you select a folder to download, only the files in that folder will be downloaded and the subfolders will be ignored. The status can be seen in the Downloads view.

Add To Favorites (Default): This option will add the file or folder to the "Default" favorite.

Favorites View

This view shows the list of favorite shortcut folders created in Tonido. From Tonido software any file or folder can be selected and marked as a favorite . Furthermore, any file or folder can be selected from the Tonido for IPhone/iPod/iPad and marked assigned to "Default" favorite shortcuts. The functions provided by this view are the same as the Explorer View.

Music View

This view shows the music player controls when playing music files. The application supports a variety of music format (MP3, FLAC, OGG, WMA, WAV, M4A) and can play the songs directly from the network (Streamed) or from the downloaded file. Select the audio file and it will start playing automatically. Once the audio file completes, it will move to the next audio file in that folder automatically. The Tonido app will continue playing the audio file in Phone Locked state or in background mode. In the case of network play, Sometimes, due to network condition songs might not play or might skip. In those conditions, the streaming bit rate setting in the Settings view can be changed to alleviate the problem if possible. Note: If a song is transcoded, (say to 64 Kb/s, then the time listed in the player will be much larger than the actual play time. ).

There will be an indication (wireless) if a song is streamed from a network location.

Downloads View

This view shows the various files and folders downloaded to the device. A file or files of a folder can be downloaded directly to the device by selecting the "Download contents to Phone" option in the Details view. Note that only the files contained in a folder will be downloaded. The subfolders will be skipped. The Downloads view supports the same functions that are supported by the Explorer view.

Edit: Tap this button to delete a file or folder downloaded to the device

In Progress: Tap this button to view the files that are currently being downloaded

Row selection: Tap the row to navigate into the folder.

The In Progress view shows the files that currently being downloaded. Edit control can be used to abort a download. The downloads can only be done when the app is in the foreground mode.

Launching a document using another installed app

Files downloaded to the device can also be launched using other installed application. For example, downloaded PDF files can be launched using iBooks app.

Action Button: Tap this button to list the applications that support the selected file type. If no apps are installed that can support the application, then a dialog will be displayed indicating such.

Application option: Select the application to use to launch the selected file.

Settings View

The settings menu provides various information about the server and settings that can be changed.

Switch: Tap this button to go to login view and enter a different Tonido server information to connect.

Connected Via: This indicates the last connection mode that was used to retrieve data. LAN indicates that the app has detected that the Tonido server is in the same local network and will use the local IP for much faster access. WAN indicates that the app will use the remote address to access the Tonido server.

Music Streaming: Select the appropriate transcode setting based on the network condition. You might have to try different setting to select the optimal setting.

Tap this button to go to login view and enter a different Tonido server information to connect.
