TonidoPlug runs Ubuntu Linux as the operating system on top of which Tonido application is installed. You have multiple ways of transferring photos to your TonidoPlug connected with an external USB harddisk without touching the TonidoPlug setup.
There are more than one way to do this. Here are some of the options:
Option 1:
You can use the built-in Tonido functionality which brings a PlugAdmin application for controlling samba shares. Whenever you connect a external usb harddisk, it automatically mounts the harddisk under /media/usb0. Now you can go into the Tonidoplug admin utility and allow samba access to the connected USB harddisk (this will make your usb HDD visible to any computer in your network as a network disk). Now from your computer, copy all your photos as if you are copying from one folder to another.
Option 2:
You can completely use Linux OS functionality and use a tool like WinSCP to copy files into TonidoPlug if your source computer is Windows.
Option 3:
Create a Windows share of the directory containing your photos on your computer. SSH to TonidoPlug and mount your Windows share. Now you can copy the files over to the USB harddisk.
Option 4:
Create a Windows share of the directory containing your photos. SSH to TonidoPlug and mount your Windows share. Now you can share the photos through Tonido by pointing it to use the mounted share directory.
Step 1: Get the Tonido Profile that needs to be transferred.
Please follow the instructions at: Tonido Backup to get your profile data.
Your profile data will be stored in a directory with the same name as your profile. Say your profile is 'zzzz' then the directory will be called 'zzzz'.
Step 2: Please copy your 'zzzz' directory into your plug.
Instructions to do the copy using a FTP client:
You could use the FTP client you might already have or you can download Filezilla.
Follow the steps below to connect to TonidoPlug.
Create a new Site in Site Manager. Host: IP address of your plug Port: Leave it to be empty Server Type: SFTP User: root Password: your password (default is nosoup4u) Hit connect.
You will see remote site directory listing. You will be in /root directory. Double click on "app" directory to list the app directory. Navigate into into "tonido/approot/profiles".
Now drag and drop your 'zzzz' directory into the profiles directory.
Step 3: Refresh your Tonido Profile list page and you should see 'zzzz' show up. You should be able to login normally using this profile. Make sure you don't use this profile from another Tonido.
Note: Any file system links in Webshare, Jukebox, Photos etc won't work anymore. You might need to recreate them.
FS_MOUNTOPTIONS=""to
FS_MOUNTOPTIONS="-fstype=vfat,rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=hal,shortname=mixed,uid=1000,utf8,umask=077,flush". Next time when a USB stick is connected, non english characters will be displayed properly.

For security reasons, we have restricted access to the TonidoPlug Admin to within a valid sub-network. As the access through the TonioPlug Admin is at the root level, we did not want TonidoPlug Admin to be accessed from outside. This restriction will prevent some hackers to use brute force attack to get access to the TonidoPlug.
For additional security, the sub-network IP address range should comply with the standard defined by the internet body for home/private use. This means, the computer from which you are trying to access the TonidoPlug should not only be inside the sub-network but also be within one of the IP address ranges defined below.
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
Note: If the IP address range is not one of ranges defined above, please switch your internal network IP address range to one of the above.
