Hi, I’ve set up my tonidoplug to boot from a 500Gb usb hard disk using the instructions here:
http://www.tonido.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 12&start=0.

I’d like to now purchase and install the TonidoPlug Drupal Image but I don’t want to lose any data or accounts I already have on my existing usb image. Is there any way to achieve this?

You will need to backup your Tonido profile and data and then restore them back after installing the new image.

Also, note that if you are tech-savvy, you could also install drupal directly on the USB booted tonidoplug by using apt-get etc which will preserve all your data.

Just for completeness, this is how I did it.

I backed up my profile by booting to the native software i.e USB disk removed, where I’d previously created the profile I wanted to keep and had also copied to my USB disk.

Plug in a spare USB stick

Putty to tonidoplug and log on as root.

Establish the path to the USB stick with df -k. I think mine mounted as /media/usb1

cd /root/app/tonidoid/approot/profiles

Copy your profile to the USB stick with tar cvf /media/usb1/myprofile.tar . (period|full stop)

Power down tonidoplug and remove usb stick

Install the LAMP Drupal image on the USB Disk by following the instructions provided with the image. Note you will lose everything on your USB Disk so make sure you’ve backed up everything you want to preserve.

I did this on my netbook running Ubuntu Netbook Remix, but any Linux distro or live Linux cd will do as long as you have two USB ports at your disposal.

Run GParted and partition the usb disk according to your needs. The objective is to leave the Drupal image in the 1st partition and create a second partition to use for the Tonido apps. As I had a 500gb USB disk I split it in half as two 250Gb partitions.

Now insert the USB stick and open a terminal as root to your OS. Establish the mount points of the USB Disk and the USB stick with df -k

cd to the USB Disk mount point, then continue to the root/app/tonidoid/approot/profiles directory

Restore the backed up profile with tar xvf /<USB stick mount point>/myprofile.tar

Unmount the USB disk and the USB stick.

Plug the USB disk into the tonido plug and power up

You should now be able to access the Drupal LAMP image on port 80, and the tonido app on port 10001.

All that’s left to do is mount up the second partition probably /dev/sda2 to /media/disk1part1 in Plug Admin>disks. Don’t be tempted to mount the first partition /dev/sda1 as this is your LAMP space and you probably don’t want Tonido writing all over that.

Finally, re enable the Tonido apps to recreate their directories under /media/disk1part1 and you’re good to go.

I’ve not dealt with any data preservation here as I had none I wanted to preserve. If you do, you’ll have to go to the forum for guidance. Please bear in mind that I’ve written this from memory and am fairly confident it is complete, but no guarantees, Sorry.

Thanks for the guide! I am moving it to the tips area.
