I have the need to sync large amounts of data between sites (>>50GB) and cannot use the relay service because of cost (international internet traffic costs alot here in Iceland).

So my only option to be able to use Tonidosync is to have a non capped non relay option.

Is that something that will be available soon?

Not in the short term. Might change in the future.

Too bad. Was really hoping Tonidosync was the solution.

Now I´ll have to check out Aero FS and Sparkleshare.

I created an account to ask about this before I bought a plug, then I found this thread. The plug with sync seems like such a great idea, but the relay is what kills it for me.

I will keep checking back every few months for updates.

Is there anywhere to 'sign up' for updates on Tonido Sync only? I'm not really interested in other news.

You can of course use Sync without using the relay if you choose to, so everything is completely private.

There is no separate channel for sync only at this point.

Oh, I was under the impression that the Tonido Sync had to run through the Tonido servers.

So, to make sure I am clear ...

If I buy a TonidoPlug (when they are back in stock), I can just use it along with Tonido Sync on my computers to keep certain documents/files in sync without going through Tonido's servers (relay/storage)? I would, in fact, rather not have some of this data pass through or get stored on some one else's network.

In other words, Tonido Sync can be setup to just use my private network when syncing? Obviously, if I am on my laptop away from home, it wouldn't be able to connect, but changes I make on the laptop could still sync to the rest of my machines when I returned home, right?

Or did I misunderstand you?

Side note: Since I read that I would be limited to 2GB sync with TonidoPlug this morning, I've been writing a series of Win batch scripts to handle SyncToy push/pull ... not very pretty and a bit convoluted. But if I understand you correctly, then I will gladly buy a TonidoPlug and use it over my (pathetic) home-grown solution.

As everything with Tonido, you can set it up so that you don't depend upon our servers and everything works even if we are not around.

If your portforward Tonido's HTTP port, you can sync remotely using that port forwarded port even from remote location.

As you mention, the TonidoPlug comes with 2GB of sync in addition to unlimited remote access to files.

I think I'm more confused now. So, no matter how I configure a TonidoPlug, I would be limited to to 2GB total of data when syncing between devices?

How can there be a sync limit if someone is not using your server? You hardcoded this in your software?
If you upgrade to pro, you get a different client?
