I used "apt-get install smbpass" from the "Create User Authenticated Samba Share" instructions.

OIC. You probably got the error because the Ubuntu repository no longer exists for arm v5 processors like the plug v1. Ubuntu stopped supporting v9 for Arm took down the package repositories. It is going to be difficult to install any standard packages on the plug v1.

The Tonido plug 2 runs Debian Squeeze, but the Tonido folks have not released a rootfs image of it that is compatible with the plug v1.

I don't know what to tell you.

I got this tplugv1 used/refurbished just to test this technology out, so I'm free to do with it as needed. My goal is to get file sharing, and maybe cups printing going. How would I go about loading or reseting the tplug to it's regional factory state and start over from scratch?

Here's how to reset and re-flash the Plug v1 (and ONLY plug v1)

Check the old support site for other stuff

You can try Arch Linux. It's a well supported distro.

updating the info in the sources.list will help

change http://ports.ubuntu.com to http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu

right now it's still working for version1.
