I have just upgraded the TP2 with the correct apps to use the TonidoDrive feature

I have access to my local TP2 and I see the folders
I have also NFS shares which I can access.
As long as it is a text based file (nzb / txt etc.) I can open, read and even copy to my local disk, but when it's a file like rar, mkv or does not matter I can the error that the content cannot be read (can't read from source file .. . )

it seems that files >10MB cannot be handled, files <2.5 could be copied

did I miss something? ;-)

Yes, you are right in that the Drive is optimized for mounting TonidoDrives over the internet and for a lot of application, the data is required immediately and remote reads/writes will just make this not feasible. So the Drive will cache files locally and we have limited this to 10MB . So you will be able to open files that are less than 10 MB (not 2.5) But this is NOT A hard limit. so you can change it.

You can change that value by opening the file: %APPDATA%/TonidoDrive/config.xml

and then change the key <maxdownloadsizeinmb>10</maxdownloadsizeinmb> to whatever value you want. Note that, the larger the value, the longer it will take to cache large files (we cache it as and when windows filesystem opens/reads files)
Once you change it, you would need to restart TonidoDrive to it to take effect.

hope that explains it.

That explains it.
Will test it if it is usable the way I want to use it compared to webDAV function.
Why is the 'maxdownloadsizeinmb' function not a setting in the UI?

This limit was selected so that most folks who would want to use this over WAN (as opposed to LAN) would typically use it for file editing etc. So 10 MB was selected. This was not exposed as a UI setting to reduce general clutter due to setting. But we can add that if there is a real need for it.

It seems odd that Tonido Drive was not meant for transferring files over LAN. Isn't that the point? Its not clear to me the reason for the slow cache process and the need for moving around text files only via a network drive.

As windows 7 is wonky with webshares, the only solution was WebDav. Unfortunately Netdrive and BitKinext were useless as well. They connected but did not transfer files correctly. And with Tonido Drive any file over 50 mb (after changing config.xml file to except larger files) commonly froze explorer, or crashed my computer altogether. (keeping in mind it is in beta, rooting for the next updates).

Is it not common sense to need those large files/backups on the TPlug accessible while traveling as well as when u are home on LAN? Was very excited, now very bummed. someone please sweet lord give me a simple NAS solution that i can also access via LAN and a explorer or finder-like interface. the multi-app "personal cloud" thing is the icing on the cake with great future possibles.

Within a LAN, you should be able to access all your files on TPlug using Samba (just do a map network drive \\tonidplug internal ip).

We envision Tonidoplug's usecase to be primarily a WAN access for sensitive files. You can alsocopy large files into TonidoDrive (2 gig max for each file) . But downloads are limited to 10 megs (which you can override).

Over the LAN, the plug shows up as a network drive. Is there a problem using it?

ah, i see. the problem is not TonidoDrive or Win7 network sharing. There were some errors in how my USB disks were setup that did not allow them to be shared on my local network. i found the solution in the TonidoPlug forum here: http://www.tonido.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=2080&start=10

going to TPlug admin, remounting my drives, connecting to plug via ssh, adding smb.cfg file, and adding drive as a share did the trick.

i was a bit rough adding usb drives, yanking them, adding another etc. during the initial setup of the plug. could this have caused the smb.cfg issue? is there a way to insure this does not happen to future TPlug installs for other people? not a huge deal, but is confusing.

Thanks and ignore my previous whining!

Yes, it is possible that caused the smb.conf. Let us know if it happens again.

Maybe I've gotten a little confused ...

I have installed TonidoDrive on a computer on the same LAN as my Tonido Server.

I have successfully mounted TonidoDrive using the standard ...

http://<myname>.tonidoid.com/app/websharepro/share/:10001 .. ie using a WAN connection. I have also changed the max file size from the default 10 to 50MB.

By now I am trying to speed things up by pointing TonidoDrive to the LAN address of the server, ie ...

http://<local_lan_name>/app/websharepro/share/:10001

But I get the error message "This Server is not eligible to use TonidoDrive, ...."

I know I can simply map my Tonido directories as network drives .. but I share several different directories, so it would require multiple mappings. Whereas TonidoDrive groups them all into a single drive mapping (very nice !).

Is there something else I need to do??

Many thanks.
