Hi guys,

first off thanks for fixing the time-out issue when displaying a folder with many sub-folders, it works a treat. Just a couple of things I'd like to put out there to see if I'm the only one with the issues.

- Very slow streaming speeds to my iPhone whilst inside LAN (app reports as using LAN - nice touch BTW). It takes around 5 minutes to 'buffer' a song about half that length. I've been trying in all parts of the flat (even next to the router  ), with nothing dowloading/no other devices logged on to the router. I did not experience this with the 'old' app. Same speeds reported from outside LAN. I tried with all of the different bitrates, same results.
- Music keeps playing in the backrgound when switching from 'app' to 'phone settings - Wifi on/off'. Then Music player is unresponsive e.g. Music keeps on playing. This only happened a couple of times and is no big deal, but I thought I'd report anyway.

Would it be possible to get a search box inside the music player? This would be quite cool - again, no deal breaker but a nice touch nonetheless.

Here are some details of my network configuration:
- iPhone 4 with latest version of the Tonido App (2.1)
- TonidoPlug with 2.27.0.13623 installed - unlimited speed
- Wifi router G (54Mbps) - I know it's on the slow side but I am able to stream 720p MKV to my Apple TV 2 wirelessly, so a poxy 256kbps song should be fine, right? ;)
- ADSL 8Mpbs down/1Mbps up

Cheers

What is your music streaming settings? Original Bitrate or something else?

Hi Madhan,

thanks for your reply. I have tried them all - from 32kbps to native, same issue with all streaming settings.

Just to make sure it is not an issue with the plug struggling to transcode, I have also tried with songs with different native bitrates - from 96kbps to 1200kbps. It seems as though the lower bit rates seem to buffer more quickly, though anything over 160kbps will be painfully slow. It seems as though it is network related, but I will have to find where the bottleneck is. Just out of curiosity, I have tried to Airplay a 720p movie from the iPhone Camera Roll (app that comes with the iPhone out of the box) to the Apple TV, and after a little bit of buffering (no more than a few seconds), it starts fine and never buffers again until the end of the movie. So it seems as though the connection between the phone and the network is fine. Do you know of a utility I could use to find the bottleneck?

Has anyone reported the same issue? I am a bit bummed because I was using this quite a bit at work, I guess I'll have to start taking my iPod to work with me again, hopefully that won't break down, or I'd have to take my massive Walkman with me

On a different note, I really, really like the addition of Airplay to the app.

Cheers

I haven't seen any buffering issues and I use my iPhone to play music all day; and we haven't seen anyone else reporting these issues.

You could try a Windows Tonido install and check against that just to see.

thanks for your prompt response. I'll check with a desktop Tonido and report here.

There must be something wrong with my network, I'll keep looking for the bottleneck.

Cheers

There was absolutely nothing that was changed in that area of the app. We added support primarily for new share stuff, Airplay and raw photo support etc. I am using iphone 4 at the latest firmware level ios4.3 and there is no difference in terms of access or streaming.
Also make sure you are at the latest Tonido server level.

Hi,

I (think) I have finally worked out what on earth is happening with my network. A few months ago I reverted to using a router provided by my ISP as the old one had died, and everything seemed to work fine.

I have noticed that the router forces some devices to open some sort of a splash page before it will connect it to the network/Internet (ad for the ISP). It turns out that it started forcing my iphone to the same splash page - I don't really know why as it never did it before, maybe my ISP pushed a firmware update to the router?
I have narrowed down to this as I am having issues with the following devices in the home:
- iPhone
- Kindle
- AppleTV
None of these will connect to the Internet - or not always. Maybe something to do with the splash page only showing every time the DHCP/IP is renewed?

Weirdly, the plug seems to be unaffected, as torrenting functions the same as usual - mind you it is usually quite difficuly (read impossible most of the time) to connect from outside my LAN.

Anyway, I thought I'd update this thread as others might come across this weird issue. I have tried with another router and all was well, now all I need is to actually buy a new router - damn ISP!
Cheers
