We have a macmini and we have set-up web sharing. On the same macmini we installed tonido. On our local GigaBit network, when we use the regular finder to download files from the macmini that are 2GB in size it takes 40 seconds. When we use the browser and web share it gives us 50KB/sec and it takes 40 hours to download the same file. Is it normal ? What are we doing wrong ?

Can you check your Tonido upload speed? Access that value using TonidoAdmin->AdvancedView->Settings->Network.

Change that upload limit to "unlimited" and try it.

now it gives me 320KB/sec average.
a 100MB file takes 1 second to transfer using the finder and 4 minutes using tonido

Any way I can speed it up tonido like the finder speed ?

Which Tonido version are you using?

I ran most recent Tonido version on my Mac Mini connected to my network via a wired connection and I got ~2.2 MB/s download of a 993 MB file through Tonido Explorer from a Windows Machine running Firefox.

That was with unlimited and will probably the fastest you are going to get via the web interface currently. The reason is Tonido is heavily oriented towards efficiency on slow networks like the internet.

We have an office with 60 macs connected to a macmini that is connected to a drobo 16TB using firewire 800. Our files our mainly video files and they average 1.5GB to 3GB in size. Using OS X finder it's actually perfect and fast but there is a 10 users limit. OS X server is kind of complex for us. We though we could use tonido for it but I guess it is not really what we need unfortunately. I loved the tonido's interface!!!

I am kind of surprised that you are getting such a slow speed. You should be getting at least 2 MB/s or more. Please try your test with the setting at 1 MB/s and see if things change or remain the same.

If you are really interested in higher speeds, we could make it go much much faster in the LAN if we spend some time optimizing for it, but would probably take more memory.

i tried from a macpro quadcore and still 320K maximum. Even from the macmimi itself where tonido is installed i get 320k. with the finder it takes one second or less.
I have attached a screen shot.

I installed papaya http://lightheadsw.com/papaya/ (a web server for files) and it is as fast as the finder. I wish tonido had the same speed.

It looks you are are using your public URL within the LAN?
In that case if you are using relay, note that traffic is going through our relay services and back.

Why don't you use the IP address of the mac mini directly to access your Tonido?

but how can the others do (like papaya) even in this configuration ?
