I'm trying to browse a share that's worked in the past, but now stalls whenever I browse directories from the root in Mac OS X Lion. I have two USB drives; one works fine when browsing in finder and the other has the issue. I reset the HD mappings in tonido because the drive that I primarily use was constantly unmounted when I'd try and use it. In clearing the mappings something must have been triggered and now finder just spins forever and doesn't list directory contents when browsing the share. I've reset TonidoPlug and my Mac, deleted the share in finder and recreated, but the problem persists.

Interestingly I can browse the drive via a web browser from the Mac without seeing the stalling in listing directory contents. So it doesn't appear to be the drive.

Any ideas?

Hmm, that is odd, the fact one drive works and the other doesn't. Do you have any special characters or non-english characters in the directory or files in the root of the non-working USB drive.

No special characters as far as I can tell. I honestly think it may be an issue with Mac OS X Lion's WebDAV client, since it works fine via a web browser or the iPhone app.

I'm still seeing this issue, and on two different Macs. Both are running the latest OS X Lion (10.7.2), so there may have been a change in the WebDav client that's incompatible with TonidoPlug. I certainly didn't see this issue prior to upgrading to Lion, when I was on Snow Leopard.

We're talking it literally takes 5 minutes for a directory listing to appear, and it only has around 20 files.

Has anyone else noticed extremely slow read/write speeds on WebDav mounted TP shares?

I'm still seeing this issue on my iMac. I'm now running OS X Lion 10.7.4. When I browse a drive mounted via WebDAV, I wait for literally minutes before directory contents are displayed in Finder. This is for dirs with a reasonable number of files, not thousands/millions.

My iMac is connected via Ethernet to the same router as the TonidoPlug, so it's not a network speed/latency issue. As I mentioned above, I just started noticing this when I upgraded to Lion last summer. With Snow Leopard WebDAV access to the TonidoPlug was immediate, like browsing an SMB share. So it may be a buggy WebDAV client in Lion, but I'm not sure. I'd like to debug and get to the bottom of this issue, as it's rendered my TonidoPlug virtually unusable.

I'm happy to enable debugging or whatever I need to do to figure this out. Can a Tonido admin steer me in the right direction?

Thanks.

I've found something that may have something to do with my issue. I set the logging level to trace, and then browsed a few dirs on the WebDAV share in Finder. I noticed several of these entries in the log:

16:10:32:720 [13] [TCPServerConnection (default[#4])]:T: HTTP Request [192.168.1.3] [PROPFIND] [/app/websharepro/share/1TB/movies/._ninja.wmv]
16:10:32:725 [13] [TCPServerConnection (default[#4])]:T: processRequest File not found: /media/WD_-_1/movies/._ninja.wmv

These ._ files are resource forks automatically created by OS X.

More evidence of other users experiencing the same behavior:

The problem is that Finder makes a lot of unwanted calls causing all manner of slowdowns.

Right, I saw that page in my quest to troubleshoot, but what can be done to resolve the issue? I implemented this change

Code:
defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true

but didn't see any difference in performance.

Have you noticed that TonidoPlug WebDAV shares stall on Mac OS X Lion, Madhan? Is the TonidoPlug just unusable on OS X Lion?

Unfortunately, we don't test on Mac OSX Lion, only Snow Leopard so we haven't experienced this problem yet. We need another machine with Lion to test.
