Is it possible to share a mapped network drive with Tonido Webshare or Webshare Pro (for example the content of a NAS) ?

Yes, that is possible if you mount your nas on the tonidoplug. I use autofs and nfs, but with samba it should work fine as well.

We use a NAS (Buffalo Terastation Pro) as file server to store/share the files of our small business locally on our internal network. This fileserver is actually plugged (with an Ethernet cable) into the router of our network. Tonido Plug seems to accept USB disks, not Ethernet. Our NAS has already an Ethernet cable for connection to the nework router.

So my question remains : can I share the content of a mapped network drive ( in my case the Buffalo NAS) with Tonido Webshare (Pro) over the Internet ?

I have not tried it myself; but I've read here in the forums that WebShare can access network shares.

@ siriri: Yes you can....

You need to SSH into tonidoplug and map the remote network share drive onto tonidoplug. Then you can share the contents from webshare like any other folder.

Please refer to this thread http://www.tonido.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=286 to map ( or mount) a remote share on tonidoplug.

siriri never mentioned the TonidoPlug but does mention the WebShare app that is not on the TonidoPlug, so I don't think siriri is using the TonidoPlug. TonidoPlug does make things a bit complicated, especially for us Linux noobs. But Tonido on a Windows or Mac, sharing should be a no-brainer.

@siriri: Since Tonido is free, install and try it out. That will give you the best answer to your question.

Thanks for your answers. Yes, right, I don't use Tonido Plug (at least not yet) and I don't use Linux (at work at least) but Windoze. I will try it out with WebShare and I will post again after to let you know if sharing mapped network drives works.

I tried it and it works !

But this seems not a very safe way of accessing sensitive business data over Internet as the data is not encrypted. I guess the SSL option is a must. Does the SSL option create a tunnel like a VPN ?

One last question : why are the files and folders not in alphabetic order ? With long lists of files and/or folders the list is a big mess and it's difficult to find the one you are looking for.
