We use Tonido to share files with subcontractors and vendors. We create a share for a given project then create a guest user account with access just to that share.

When we test access internally from our LAN everything works great.

When we access the share using the Webshare URL the list of available files and folders available in the share is often incomplete and sometimes the page is completely blank. If we refresh the page it will sometimes show a complete list. Refresh again and it goes back to the incomplete listing. The behavior is pretty random.

If we access the share by going to the main login page and selecting Login as Guest (thus bypassing the Webshare app) it always shows a complete directory listing, so the problem appears isolated to Webshare.

We have tried using IE, Firefox and Chrome, each with the same result.

Tonido is running on an up-to-date Windows 2003 server behind a Cisco ASA5510 firewall with FTP and HTTP open through to the server.

Has anyone encountered this behavior?

How big is the share? How many files in the listing?
Are there are any special files with non-english characters?

When this happens, can you post a screenshot and maybe the snippet of the tonido.log (after changing log level to trace first)?

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for my delayed response - got tied up setting up a remote location.

The shares range in size from 5 MB to 100 MB. File listings in each folder range from 1 to 20. No non-English characters in the file names, but there are spaces, hyphens and underscores.

Attached are the log redacted to today's entries after I tried accessing the share and a Word doc with 3 screen shots. The first is the incomplete listing I get when accessing using the external URL (though connected from within the LAN). The second is the complete listing I get when using the internal servername:10001 URL. The third is a Windows directory listing of the contents of this specific folder within the share.

This is pretty odd, are the files on an external drive or LAN or on local HDD?

The Windows server is a virtual machine hosted on a Citrix XenServer. Physically, the volume is part of a fiber channel storage array. But XenServer presents it to Windows as an internal SCSI disk.

As far as Windows is concerned it's an internal harddrive.

The problem almost appears as if the server times out getting this file listing.
A quick check to test connectivity vs the VM lagging out is to try the same function but on a Tonido Desktop running on a Physical machine in the same network and see if you get this behavior.

Actually, we're running Tonido on a second server (also a VM hosted on the same XenServer) primarily to allow internal users access to their files from mobile devices. In testing I haven't encountered any of these issues on this server even though the shares contain a lot more data.

It could come down to come down to server performance, though. The fileserver VM for the internal users runs Windows Server 2008 and has more physical resources (RAM, CPUs, etc.) than the webserver VM.

I'll try tweaking the resources for the webserver a bit to see if it helps. What's more important to Tonido - processing power or RAM?

EDIT:
Fileserver has 8 VCPUs and 16GB RAM
Webserver has 4 VCPUs and 8GB RAM

In theory your VM is way overpowered to run Tonido. :D
Tonido runs on routers pretty speedily.

Is it possible you can share a link with me that contains non-confidential information via a PM so we can observe this behavior. Again I understand if you cannot do it.

Thanks for the PM, I checked out your share.
It appears the HTTP response data is for some reason stopped in the middle. Are you sure there is no antivirus, proxy or anything sitting in middle?

It almost appears as if there is something resetting the TCP connection in the middle of the transfer.

There isn't anything wrong with actual data Tonido is sending back, so that looks ok.

At this point, my theory is that the VM environment is causing this but I really can't say more than that.
