Hello,
I am experiencing very slow sync times on Mac OSX 7.2 and I don't know if this is normal or not.

E.g. I want to move my iTunes library of 8.9 GB to my Tonido sync folder and this process is taking already 10 days now. Everyday a little bit less than 1 gigabyte is transferred. What I don't get is why this is happening so slowly. The data is already located on my Tonido server machine and it's just moving from the cache folder to the tondo sync folder which are both on the same hard drive.

any pointers? do you need me to sent any log's?

Thanks a lot,

Jacques

How many sync clients are connected to the server?
You might get better pefrormance if you disconnected all the sync clients till the initial sync got over.

I have zero sync clients connected. The slow process of copying the data through the staging and cache folders happens entirely on the server. The server is running 24X7 and has now copied 8,34 GB in a period of 11 days.

Could there be an issue with my license and I have reached some kind of upload or data transfer limit? In the Server admin interface I see 'upgrade to Pro' messages everywhere while I do have a proper Tonido Pro license bought 2 weeks ago.

Thanks for any additional troubleshooting tips.

Jacques

The "Upgrade to Pro" message even when you have Pro is a bug and will be fixed shortly.

The sync process generally syncs about 100 files or so, stops and then resyncs another 100 files. So it is possible that is causing the slow sync speed, but I would have still expected it to go faster than that.

How many files approximately do you have?

Hi Madhan,

Apparently the iTunes library folder is a container file which contains tons of small files besides my photos. In total there are 26,649 files in 4868 subfolders. So this is maybe the reason. Is there a possibility to go beyond the 100 files sync limit?

Correction: it is my iPhoto library I am trying to sync not iTunes.

kind regards,

Jacques

That certainly could be the reason. We don't have a way to change that parameter by the user at this point. We will have to add it in the future.

There is one other thing I wanted to mention.
There is one other open issue that you might want to be aware of, currently if any file changes below the top level directory on Linux or on TonidoPlug, it is not detected. We already have a fix and it will be released in the next release.

Good to know thanks. When woke up this morning I discovered that the syncing process of my iPhoto library had finally finished :D So I can confirm the syncing does work but it's incredibly slow.

kind regards,

Jacques

Hello,

Ive got the same problem. I wanted to sync my photos from my windows laptop to my linux (ubuntu) server in a LAN. It synced now 1,6 Gb in i 4 or 5 hours. Normally when i copy stuff via the LAN its much quicker. I unchecked the relay option hoping that it would sync directy. Do i have to restart after unchecking the relay option? Or is it normal that is this slow? Is it true that there's a limit of 50 Gb to it? If so why is that?

Thanx!

Please don't disable relay unless you know what you are doing.
Most likely sync will not work without changing your URLs etc.
Sync will go directly if the path is available otherwise it will go via WAN.

Yes, Sync will be slower than copying files.
