I purchased a new TonidoPlug2 after my very unhappy experience with the disaster-laden introduction of Cloud Engines' Pogoplug Video, which was subsequently recalled and discontinued because of a supposed fire hazard. In the meantime, I had purchased a Buffalo Linkstation Duo and can access it outside my home network via their WebAccess portal. Should I plug in the Linkstation into the TonidoPlug2 when it arrives? I don't see any need to have 2 web access sites if the TonidoPlug2 can serve up both pieces of equipment. The Linkstation is not very efficient in streaming video and downloading files and I was hoping the TonidoPlug can supplement it in this arena.

Thanks for any advice.

How exactly will you hook up the Linkstation Duo to the plug2, that is not clear.

Gee, now that you mentioned it, I didn't even think about that. I had assumed that the Linkstation Duo is just like any other external drive that you can plug into the computer. I recall it has a USB port, but that is for plugging another hard drive into it, while it actually plugs directly into the router. I didn't realize that you can daisychain other drives into it, but the Duo itself has no male USB plug to allow it to be plugged into something like a TonidoPlug. I know your competitor was marketing Pogoplugs built-in directly into Linkstations, so I figure if Linkstation and Pogoplug can dance together, why can't Linkstation and TonidoPlug do likewise (I don't know how, though).

So I guess I'm stuck with a hard drive that cannot be mated with a TonidoPlug because it is already a NAS by itself, and I didn't really need the TonidoPlug after all. Well, is there a way I can use the TonidoPlug with other hard drives I have, like a spare Lacie and a Western Digital, and still be able to see the Linkstation on the same local network through the Tonido webshare service, so that I can transfer files back and forth even though they are not physically connected? I guess I'm trying to find a use for both so that they can still work together even though they can't connect with each other.

Am I making sense? Sorry, but I am a complete newbie when it comes to these matters.

There might be some way to mount the NAS drive as a mounted path on your TonidoPlug. But you would need to be comfortable with Linux for that.

I have Webmin installed, from Webmin it is quite easy to mount NAS drives, server drives etc... I currently have my home computer, an Apple TimeMachine and an old AppleTV mounted as drives

do a quick search on a webmin (and as always if you install software on your Tonido it voids the warranty and can cause the apocalypse)

Thanks! I just visited the Webmin website and I find the array of modules available to be quite extensive and intimidating for a non-tech person to even try installing. It looks like the module called "Disk and Network Filesystems mount.wbm.gz Mount filesystems and swap files usually configured in /etc/fstab or /etc/vfstab. Most operating systems" is what I need. Or perhaps its the "DHCP Server dhcpd.wbm.gz Manage shared networks, subnets, hosts and groups for ISC DHCPD. Most operating systems" that is suitable.

Now if someone would post a step-by-step procedure on how eactly to do this, I would not mind giving it a try.

Thanks for the tip, and I'll keep it in my maybe/someday file for now.
