Hi all,

I've searched and can't find help that I can interpret on this.

I have a TonidoPlug2, and am running OS X Mountain Lion on a MacBook, OS X Lion on another MacBook, and I am able to connect to my TonidoPlug2 through samba: (smb://x.x.x.x), and webDAV: (https://x.x.x.x), but not with AFP (afp://x.x.x.x). Is there some configuration I'm missing, or is AFP not supported with TonidoPlug2 (I've heard it's faster than samba, though, so that'd be a bummer).

Is AFP the same as "zeroconf" or "netatalk"?

Thanks in advance for your help.

We currently don't support AFP on the TonidoPlug2

Ah. I see. Thanks for the info, I guess.

If I'm really frustrated with a variety of things with my tonido (which I am right now), do I need to split all those things into separate issues, or can I get help for them all at once somehow? I don't see telephone or even live chat support. Am I missing something?

afp ~ netatalk

You could install netatalk on the Tonidodoplug, however it would be version 2.1.

Lion needs version 2.2 so probably a no go. I have not tried it.
Too many problems reported bij those who did.

Yes samba should be slower than afp, bud that is on a fast computer.

On a slow desktop I tried both once (Ubuntu 11.10 and Samba and Netatalk 2,2.1) both were about als fast (or slow if you prefer).

The Tonidoplug is about as fast as that old desktop so I'm happy with the networkperformance of the little plug, which is about 20 Mbyte/second transfer speed (OSX Snow Leopard - Tonidoplug Debian Squeeze). Windows 7 on a fast PC is up to 25% faster.

@ZEDenterprizes is your throughput not fast enough?

Posting too many issues in one topic is hard to respond to.
Sorry, we currently offer support via our forum, there is no chat support.

@madhan

Okay, thanks for the info. I'll post what I need one at a time...

@marioscube. Thanks for the tip... I FEEL like the throughput's not very good. I'll tell you what the problem is. When I'm changing file names, creating new folders, moving things from folder to folder, deleting things, etc.--basically all those file actions--through the Finder via samba, it seems really slow. But then, maybe the problem is the refresh rate on a Finder window connected to a samba drive. The truth is that the action itself may not be too slow, but the finder window doesn't seem to update the view often enough.

I used to know how to make the windows explorer refresh the view of networked drives, but I can't figure that out for the life of me in the finder...

Thoughts on that anyone?

Using OSX (Snow Leopard) on a 2 gHz Mac Mini (2007 model) I have no problem doing al the things you describe as slow (using smb://x.x.x.x). It's not faster or slower than the acces to other Samba shared drives on windows computers. Also no problems with the refresh of the finder window.

How is your Mac an your Tonidoplug connected to your network, wired (Gigabit or 100Mbit) or wireless (N or G)?
If you have "wireless" problems then the connection will be and feel slow.
