I've been trying to SSH into my TonidoPlug2, but I keep getting "Access denied" messages. This is what I've done:

1. Launch PuTTY
2. Enter [username].tonidoid.com, port 22
3. When the login prompt appears, I enter "root"
4. When the password prompt appears, I enter my root password. (Note: this password works just fine when logging into TonidoPlug Admin via the web interface.)
5. I get "Access denied", no matter how many times I try

I can use the Tonido Shell app, but that's only helpful when not typing in commands that require any user interaction.

Note that I am offsite, i.e. not in the same LAN as my TonidoPlug.

Any idea what could be going on here?

You are probably trying to connect to our servers.
Note that the [username].tonidoid.com only connects to our servers and web traffic is routed through it.

You have two options:
1. In the LAN type you can use the plug's IP address
2. In the WAN, you can port forward port 22 and use a WAN IP address

Thanks for your prompt reply, Madhan. You were spot on. I logged in using the WAN IP without any problems.

Is there any way to SSH into a domain name? If [userid].tonido.com won't cut it, would a dynamic DNS service work?

Thanks again.

yes, certainly. You can setup a dynanmic DNS and use it.
You can use [username].tonidoid.com only if you turn off relay. But then you will lose access to tonido app and you will have to port forward.
