Win XP3 Pro.
First up, I am elderly and struggling with this wireless thing.
Previously I had a 2Wire Router with an Ethernet link to my Plug2.
Upgraded to a Sierra 4g, which works fine with all computers in house.
Have taken the 2Wire off line, and connected the Ethernet cable straight to the Plug from my computer. Seems logical to me. Router-My computer-Plug2
I am aware that the plug supports wireless, I just want to get at the plug to set it up.

Later. Discovered that my 2wire and the new Sierra had the same address, 10.0.0.138.
Disconnected Sierra and managed to access Tonidoplug through Ethernet and change to wireless.
Wireless connection made.
Can now locate the plug in my browser, but an error is returned when I try to open Tonido.
"Connection closed by remote server"
Do I need further settings in the plug for a wireless connection?

Thanks,
Jep.

If you switch to wired mode, are you able to access the tonido web page first?

Yes, I can. I have worked out that I have to disable the Sierra, make a wired connection through the 2wire, locate my Plug2 in my browser, and then boot the Sierra 4G to get wireless.
When I try to set up wireless plug I get the attached error.
I am not clear exactly on detail on what has to be entered in the wireless setup, I assume that the details in the lower part of wireless setup are automatically entered when the 4G is located.
There seems to be some interaction in my system, as I can't open both the 2wire and the Sierra admin pages at the same time. IE, 10.0.0.138 and 10.0.0.139, I have to disable one or the other.
Maybe that is the way Win works, maybe I can find a way around it. But it seems to make the switch over a non starter.
But all problems are solvable.
Assuming that a Plug2 is bought to attach where there is no wired connection, how is it setup for wireless?
Regards,
Jep.

If you are trying to make your plug a wireless router (access point):
1) Connect your plug to a wire network. Make sure it can access internet.
2) Follow step 4 from this link: http://www.tonido.com/support/display/docs/Configuration+-+Change+Network+Settings
For SSID, you can give any string of your choice. When a wireless device needs to connect to the plug, it needs to use this string.
Performing step 4, will make your plug act as a wireless router and other wireless devices can connect to internet through your plug.

If you are trying to make your plug a wireless client:
1) No need to connect a wire network to the plug.
2) Get SSID, security type, encryption type and password. All these values will be available in your router settings.

I want to connect as a client. So I don't need a wired connection except to set up.
1. Turn on computer, turn on Sierra router. All connected and working.
2. Turn on Tonido Plug. Connected to a USB HD. Blue light on and steady.
3. I have obtained the necessary info from my Sierra router.
4. Turn off Wireless connection from computer to Sierra router, as wireless connection is between Plug and router.
5. Locate my plug through the wired network.
6. I can enter the details to become a wireless client. Pass code is correct
7. Now I strike a problem.

How can I make the Plug2 talk to the Sierra?

Jeptha

Ok, Couple of things to try
1) Try switching the encryption type in your sierra router. Try couple of options and see if any of the combination work.
2) Try a SSID without any spaces. While we have tested for SSID with spaces, some routers won't allow that and also the TP2 driver might have some compatibility issue with your setting. Just something you want to give a try.
3) Try placing TP2 closer to the router, just to see if the problem goes away. Since TP2 doesn't have a wireless antenna, distance could also manifest itself as a connection error.

I have tried the above hints, have now changed ranges in the wired router to 192.0.0.0 from 10.0.0.0, but no difference. There is still a conflict there, it's one or the other.
Maybe it's the nature of XP networks, I'll keep slogging at it.
Port forwarding has been set up, 10001.

Then I reasoned that the wireless router didn't have to be connected to my computer.
The wireless connection route is Plug2 to Sierra router.
So disable Sierra in my computer and enable wired Lan.
Set up the wireless link on screen in Plug2, click connect.
It should make a connection should it not? It tries. But same old, same old.
There is some software for Win7 which maybe jiggles the Sierra into talking, but with Win8 around the corner I am not upgrading.
Isn't there some software around that would get the Plug2 to search for available networks and after having located them, allow a selection and entry of SSID and P/W. Easy!
Right now I can't work out why the Plug2 won't talk to my Sierra router.
That may be re-phrased to say that the Sierra won't listen the the Plug2, all depends.
Would it help to send a log file?

Regards,
Jep.

It is pretty hard to say why the plug is not connecting, too many variables.
Possibly in a future update, we might add support for listing and connecting to networks.

Problem worked around.
This may only be of interest to Australian Telstra/Bigpond users.
Neither of the Telstra/Bigpond wireless units mentioned below seem to accept a wireless connection from the Tonido Plug2. It requires an Ethernet connection. Live with it.
Enquiries have revealed that the Telstra/Bigpond 4G wireless, whilst working fine as a modem/wireless router, is not supported by Telstra when trying to connect to Ethernet.
Telstra advise that it cannot be done.
Neither can they support the 320U dongle, which is possibly a better choice, if one must stay with Telstra.
But the Bigpond 4G Wireless, otherwise the Sierra AC760S, can indeed be linked to an ethernet network by purchasing a Sierra AC Hub from http://www.antennashop.com.au.
Why Telstra do not provide this as an option, or even indicate that it can be done, is not obvious.
The 320U dongle can be connected too, http://www.ozcableguy.com/review.asp?router=VigorFly210
Having set up a Hub, the Plug2 works fine, speed has nearly doubled.
Happy Days.
