So I am convinced that the TonidoPlug2 will not work with the Seagate Freeagent Goflex drive. I have built the drive several times using these directions: http://www.tonido.com/communitywiki/doku.php?id=advanceduses:usbboot
and to no avail, I cannot get it to boot off of the drive.
I know those directions work as I was able to build a bootable version using a flash drive.
Anyone have any last ideas on how to get this drive to work before I give up. I have spent too many hours pulling my hair out at this point.

Thanks!

Make sure the go flex drive is MBR not GPT.

Have you tried with any other external drives?

Yes, I have been able to boot off of a USB Flash Drive to recover my plug, and this is the output from
parted -s /dev/sda print :

Model: Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex (scsi)
Disk /dev/sda: 1000GB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
Partition Table: msdos

Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
1 32.3kB 1000GB 1000GB primary ext3 boot

So I'm not sure what is happening.

There are couple of reasons plug wont boot from an USB drive.
1) Drive is not cleanly unmounted : This can be fixed easily by connecting the drive to a linux PC or even a plug normally booted and running fsck.ext3
2) Root delay is not enough: By default the plug's bios waits for 10 sec for the USB disk to be available. If the disk takes more time than that it will skip trying to boot off the disk. Fixing this will be tricky. You need to connect a usb to serial cable and increase the root delay to say 20 seconds.

We understand if option 2 is not something you want to try. In that case, please send a note to support@codelathe.com referring to the thread. If your plug is still eligible for return you can get an RMA.
