The plug is intended to be used to share media. So why not have a nice DLNA server running on this. It should be part of the Tonido software.

I understand currently tonidoplug uses ushare but it's not part of the Tonido software package for Sheevaplug.

I second this, I have never gotten ushare to work right, so i still have to have the big computer running to run mediaserver software. That defeats the purpose of the plug!

Twonky is by far the best upnp server. You can install it on a Sheevaplug so it should work on a Tonidoplug as well. Here are instructions http://www.openplug.org/plugwiki/index. ... Sheevaplug
However after the trial period you have to buy a license.

Me third, Tonido should be a Home Server where DLNA is a must, so ppl with Sony PS3 or Xbox 360 can easily access their video, photos and musics in front a TV.

The "TonidoPlug" does provide uPnP A/V and DLNA support. It runs the uShare Media Server.

Yes, the TonidoPlug does provide both DLNA and uPnP. You just set it to "on" in the web interface and choose a folder to share on the network.

Looks like Pogoplug is catching up. Today they are releasing new firmware (presumably upnp and/or DLNA) to allow PS3 and XBox 360 to stream media.

That was one of the differentiators between the two products for me. The other, to a lessor extent, were the Tonido apps. A big advantage for the Pogoplug was ActiveCopy, but support tells me something similar is coming for Tonido.

There will always be some leap frogging between competitors and those that own a technology will grin and bear it. However, for those who don't own one yet, or as in my case, ordered and am waiting, this makes us take pause.

When I ordered, shipping was planned on March 10. Current plan is to ship sometime between the 20th and 25th. If that gets delayed again, I will reconsider the Pogoplug.

I'd love to have media streaming come out of beta on the TonidoPlug. It does work but needs restarted it whenever you add something new to your collection if you want it to be available on your xBox360, which is rather annoying. Restarting media is also not perfect on the TonidoPlug as it fails quite often, but I'm sure this will be solved in the near future.

Cheers

So it's in beta? I thought it was more stable then that, now I really need to think about it.
