We are currently evaluating Tonido and even though we encountered some roadblocks (see separate posts on feature requests), we do like it a lot. Great product! :)

However, we also ran into some questions and so we hope that Tonido support or somebody on the forum can answer these questions for us. Here we go:

1. Security: Are all passwords saved on our local environment?
2. Security: Is there a feature to turn off the remote connection through a URL hosted on your server? We understand that this might eliminate some features, but it would increase our security.
3. Workspace: The workspace nicely greets the Tonido user by name. We also found a configuration option to allow guest users. However, guest users don't have a real name assigned to them. Did we miss a configuration screen or is this a missing feature?
4. Storage: Can we use an external NAS for storage?
5. Encryption: Are you planning to add any encryption features?
6. Interface: The interface seems to be somewhat cluttered. We also found some options without much explanation. What is the "Allowed folders" option for? I mean we select storage paths on another screen and we are under the assumption that this limits what can be accessed, but this option seems to contradict our assumption.
7. Webdav: Does Tonido Pro include a feature to automatically mount webdav drives in Windows 7 x64 on boot or do we need a separate software like NetDrive? If it supports mounting drives, do these drives show up as hard drives like in NetDrive (preferred) or a network share? In our experience mounted network share don't provide proper sizing and are somewhat limited in comparison to actual drives.

Major concerns:
No HTTPS and run as a service support on the windows platform.

Our evaluation compares the following three products:
1. Windows 2008 Storage Server R2
2. Tonido
3. OwnCloud

Our minimum requirements:
1. Secure and, preferably encrypted, file storage
2. Personal home drives to allow users using different machines to access their documents
3. Shared drives; ideally with "public" or "group" support
4. Remote access capability (needs to be able to work along our VPN solution)

Thanks!

Yes. Disable Relay and Tonido Network.

It is missing.

You need to mount the NAS as a drive letter on the machine Tonido is running on.

No.

That limits the list of "Browseable" folders. Otherwise all folders are available.

Yes, you use Tonido Drive which is part of Pro.
It shows up as a drive.

Thank you for your quick reply!

We will continue to evaluate Tonido. It seems to meet our needs in many areas. Hopefully, a version allowing to run it as a service will become available soon.
