I have figured out how to use rsync to backup my PC to Tonido locally (Linux obviously)-- 10.0.0.x works.

Because I need to do this from remote sites, I am trying to determine what the correct external addressing scheme is. I have tried:

myname.tonidoid.com

myname.tonidoid.com:10001

http://myname.tonidoid.com

http://myname.tonidoid.com:10001

None functions... any ideas?

myname.tonidoid.com provides you with the public IP of your home network. Specifying that alone will not work because the router doesn't know what to do with it.

If you want to access RSYNC, I am assuming you want to port forward the rsync port (873?) on your router to the tonidoplug. Then when you access your myname.tonidoid.com address, your router forwards it to your plug.

Although this is one way to do it, I also see there is a way to run rsync over SSH. So that may also work.

I have tried the port forward 873 and that seems to fail as well.

The ability to use reliable standard backup tools to link to our Tonido's actually seems like a very useful feature for those of us who travel and want/ need an easy method to backup our road warrior pc with home base.

Any other ideas, anyone???
