Hi,
i m getting some trouble with port forwarding i suppose

I put tonido on port 10005 and open the port by :

iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 10005 -j ACCEPT
or
iptables -I INPUT -p tcp --dport 10005 -j ACCEPT

nmap localhost it results 10005 it is open but stilll not able to use remote access.

Tried also this for port forwarding :

iptables -t nat-A PREROUTING -p tcp -i eth0 -d xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
--dport 1005 -j DNAT --to 192.168.0.2:80
iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -i eth0 -d 192.168.0.2 --dport 10005 -j ACCEPT

But still not able to use remote access.

I use a huawei modem (not a router, but a 3 pen stick) to access internet so i suppose the only firewall i got is iptables.

How can make remote access working?

Hi,
Let us try to understand your environment.
1) Your outside line (phone or cable) is connected to the Huawei modem.
2) Your Huawei modem is connected to a Linux box ( which acts as a router).
3) All other computers at your home (including computer running tonido) connects to this linux machine for internet access.

Can you please verify this setup, before we can find a solution for your port forwarding problem.

Thanks

Sorry for not to be clear and thanks for patience of understanding :D

1) My computer is connected to internet (or outside line) by huawei modem (E160G)
2) The modem E160G is connected to my machine (XFCE 4.6)
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=9.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=jaunty
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 9.04"
64bit

3) There is no computer attached to the one running tonido. I d like to access my files by other's machine connected to internet and not to my LAN

Hopefully this helps you to help me.
Thanks

Hi,
Ok, now I have a better idea of your environment.
I am not familiar with the modem that you have. But couple of these questions might help to figure out the modem type.
1) Do you use any dialer for you modem to connect to internet?
2) When you connect to internet, does your computer get an internet accessible IP address or private LAN ip address.
3) Have you tried accessing any service such as SSH, FTP, HTTP running on your ubuntu from internet?

Thanks

1) Honestly, i m not sure. There is no number i need to compose or composed by default. It is obviously a broadband connection. In windows usually i use the software of the modem, but i do not think it is a dialer.
In linux everything is managed by "Network manager" and is just 1 click far to connect and disconnect.
Finally 90% sure i do not use dialer

2) The IP i have once connected it is of the typ 10.x.x.x so i suppose is a private address but i d like to double check again (when at home) by whoami or ifconfig again.

3)No. Not yet but i can give that a chanche in the near future (unfortunately i need to wait until saturday to work half an hour on my pc.

P.S.: In the case i m right and my ip is 10.x.x.x, it could be the port is blocked from the provider, right?

Thanks

Hi,
Here are the possibilities. On your ubuntu you get a private network address or a public internet address.

If you get a private IP address such as 10.x.x.x for your machine, then your modem itself acts as a router. If this is the case, it should have two interfaces. A WAN side and a LAN side. It gets a internet accessible IP address from your service provider for the WAN side. For the LAN side it should be having a light weight DHCP server, which assigns an IP address for the LAN side. It will also assign IP address for the connected machines. If your modem is a router then it should have some kind of web based admin UI. You need to enable port forwarding on the modem (through this UI) to the TONIDO port.

If you are getting a internet accessible IP address, then all the configuration needs to be done only on your ubuntu machine. By default IPTABLES should let SSH accessible, so you can try to ssh from work to home. If that works then we can work on getting allowing access to your TONIDO port.

Please let us know your findings.

Thanks

Sorry to be a bit late.
Looking around, i found that most probably i m connecting over a NAT and unable to port forward.

Is there any chanche i can set up remote access?
